Twenty-two miles long and 12 miles wide, Lake Tahoe is so clear that objects can be seen up to depths of 120 feet. The floor of the Lake Tahoe basin is near the 4,580 foot elevation, lower than the surface of the Carson Valley to the east! While there are 63 tributaries draining into Lake Tahoe, there is only one outlet at the Truckee River. Also, you'll be close to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the largest National Forest within the US National Forest Service, outside of Alaska.
